The Town of Stuart is happy to announce that the Town has accepted the low bid to renovate the old Food Lion building for the SVFD’s new facility that will include 4 bays for Fire trucks and equipment as well as dispatch and other offices. The building will also have a separate 5,000 square foot space for the Patrick Henry Community College jobs training programs. Clark Brothers Construction Company from Stuart was the low bidder. We are happy that a business located in the town will be doing the renovation, Clark Brothers Construction has an excellent reputation for quality, they provide local jobs here in the town and they contribute to the town and county tax base.
There were a total of 5 bids on the project ranging from $1,220,000 (high bid) to $1,030,000 (winning bid) the rest of the bids fell somewhere in between. We expect the construction to begin sometime in January and should be substantially complete within 180 days. We are looking forward to providing a great facility to our very deserving Fire Department volunteers and in addition we will begin a new partnership with Patrick Henry Community College who has agreed to a 10 year lease of the 5,000 square foot space in the building. The college has also agreed to pay for $175,000 of renovations to cover their portion of the project, that amount will be paid back to the Town over 7 years. The building renovation was designed to have more available space set aside for possible additional rental space. The rental income will be used to help pay down the cost of the building and renovations.
