October Town Council Meeting

Council discussed the possibility of purchasing the Food Lion building for use as a new Fire Department building. The owners are offering the building to SVFD at $1.2 million even though the building is appraised at $2.47 million, the difference will be donated to SVFD so they can have the building. Chris Corbett spoke for the SVFD and discussed financing of the building. A public hearing will be held during the November Council Meeting followed by a vote to buy and method of financing.

The council voted to purchase the caboose discussed during earlier Council meetings. The caboose will be placed along the rail trail in Stuart. We hope to have the caboose delivered by the beginning of December. Hopefully the caboose will be renovated by July 31st of 2017 which is the 75th anniversary of the last D&W train in Stuart.
