The Stuart Town Council consists of a Mayor and five council members, elected from the Town at large, who serve staggered terms of four years each. The Council elects a Vice Mayor from its membership. The Vice Mayor conducts town meetings in the Mayor’s absence. The Town Council is accountable for a variety of activities including: establishing priorities for Town programs and services; establishing administrative policy, adopting an annual budget and appropriating funds, establishing town tax rates, and adopting and enforcing the Town’s ordinances. The Council, in the performance of its duties, obligations and functions, takes action collectively through adoption of appropriate ordinances, resolutions and motions.
