Our April Town Council Meeting was held on April 27th instead of the 20th due to a lack of a quorum of the Town Council members on the 20th.
During the meeting on the 27th we discussed the town’s upcoming 2016-2017 budget.
The proposed budget does not contain any tax increases or additional utilities increases. (Utilities increases were voted on during the previous budget cycle). The budget does include a 3% pay increase for town employees.
The Council voted to advertise the budget and hold a public hearing on the budget during the May Town Council Meeting.
Eddie Turner addressed the Council and mentioned a safe routes grant funding from the state that would pay 80% of project costs for sidewalks, and cross walks for elementary school children to have safer routes to Stuart Elementary School. The funding would pay for new sidewalks and replacement of old deteriorated sidewalks to encourage students to walk or ride bikes to school. The council agreed that we should pursue the funding and that we should also define the scope of the project by identifying which roads should get the sidewalk upgrades.
